‘Ā’ishah on Reminders

أَبُو بَكْرٍ بنُ عَيَّاشٍ: عَنْ عَبْدِ المَلِكِ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَعُبَيْدُ بنُ عُمَيْرٍ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ: خَفِّفْ، فَإِنَّ الذِّكْرَ ثَقِيْلٌ – تَعْنِي: إِذَا وَعَظْتَ

‘Aṭā said: I and ‘Ubayd bin ‘Umayr entered upon ‘Ā’ishah (may Allāh be pleased with her) and she said to him:

“(If you admonish the people) Lighten in your admonition for indeed the reminder is heavy.”
