قَالَ الْأَوْزَاعِيَّ: عَلَيْكَ بِآثَارِ مَنْ سَلَفَ وَإِنْ رَفَضَكَ النَّاسُ، وَإِيَّاكَ وَرَأْيَ الرِّجَالِ، وَإِنْ زَخْرَفُوهُ بِالْقَوْلِ، فَإِنَّ الْأَمْرَ يَنْجَلِي وَأَنْتَ عَلَى طَرِيقٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ

Imām al-Awzā’ī (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said:

“Adhere to the āthār of the salaf, even if people reject you, and beware of the opinions of men, even if they beautify it in speech. Then indeed, when the matter becomes clear, you will find yourself upon the straight path.”
