أَبُو بَكْرٍ بنُ عَيَّاشٍ: عَنْ عَبْدِ المَلِكِ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَعُبَيْدُ بنُ عُمَيْرٍ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهَا، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ: >خَفِّفْ، فَإِنَّ الذِّكْرَ ثَقِيْلٌ – تَعْنِي: إِذَا وَعَظْتَ<
Translation
‘Aṭā' [1] said: I and ‘Ubayd bin ‘Umayr entered upon ‘Ā'ishah [d. 57H] (may Allāh be pleased with her) and she said to him: “(If you admonish the people) Lighten in your admonition for indeed the reminder is heavy.”

‘Abdullāh bin Mas’ūd on keeping quiet and imprisoning the tongue
‘Abdullāh bin Mas’ūd [d. 28H] (may Allāh be pleased with him) said: “By Allāh, the one whom there is no (true) deity besides, there is nothing on earth more in need of a long imprisonment than the tongue.”

[1] There is a disagreement in the year in which he passed away. Ibn al-Athīr [d. 630H] [Al-Kāmil fī-Tārīkh (4/16)] mentions his death in the year 114H (and he said: It is also said: 115H); Imām adh-Dhahabī [d. 748H] [Al-Kāshif (3797 (2/52))] mentions that he passed away in the year 114H (and he said: It is also said: 115H); and Imām ibn Ḥajr [d. 852H] [Taqrīb at-Tahzīb (4623 (1/677)] mentions that he passed away in the year 114H.
