حَدَّثَنِي الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْفَضَيْلَ بْنَ عِيَاضٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ رَحِمَهُ اللّٰهُ قَالَ: >كُنَّا نُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ خَطَايَا أَفْرَغُهُمْ لِذِكْرِ خَطَايَا النَّاسِ<
Translation
Muḥammad bin Sīrīn [d. 110H] (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said: “We used to say that the people with the most faults are the quickest of them to mention the faults of others.”

Al-Fuḍayl bin ‘Iyāḍ on the best of righteous deeds
Al-Fuḍayl bin ‘Iyāḍ [d. 187H] (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said: “The best of deeds is that which is most hidden, safest from shayṭān, and furthest from showing-off.”
