كَتَبَ عُمَرُ بنُ عَبْدِ العَزِيْزِ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى رَجُلٍ: إِنَّكَ إِنِ اسْتَشْعَرْتَ ذِكْرَ المَوْتِ فِي لَيْلِكَ وَنَهَارِكَ، بَغَّضَ إِلَيْكَ كُلَّ فَانٍ، وَحَبَّبَ إِلَيْكَ كُلَّ بَاقٍ

‘Umar bin ‘Abdul-‘Azīz (may Allāh have mercy upon him) wrote to a man:

“If you think often about death, you will detest everything that is temporary and you will obtain the love for everything that is eternal.”
