قَالَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: لَا يَزَالُ النَّاسُ بِخَيْرٍ مَا أَتَاهُمُ الْعِلْمُ مِنْ عُلَمَائِهِمْ وَكُبَرَائِهِمْ وَذَوِي أَسْنَانِهِمْ فَإِذَا أَتَاهُمُ الْعِلْمُ عَنْ صِغَارِهِمْ وَسُفَهَائِهِمْ فَقَدْ هَلَكُوا

‘Abdullāh ibn Mas’ūd (may Allāh be pleased with him) said:

“The people will not cease to be upon goodness so long as they take knowledge from their scholars, their greater ones and their elders. So when they take knowledge from their young ones and their foolish ones, they are destroyed.”
