قَالَ عَبْدُ اللّٰهِ بْن مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُ: >لَا يَزَالُ النَّاسُ بِخَيْرٍ مَا أَتَاهُمُ الْعِلْمُ مِنْ عُلَمَائِهِمْ وَكُبَرَائِهِمْ وَذَوِي أَسْنَانِهِمْ فَإِذَا أَتَاهُمُ الْعِلْمُ عَنْ صِغَارِهِمْ وَسُفَهَائِهِمْ فَقَدْ هَلَكُوا<
Translation
‘Abdullāh bin Mas’ūd [d. 28H] (may Allāh be pleased with him) said: “The people will not cease to be upon goodness so long as they take knowledge from their scholars, their greater ones and their elders. So when they take knowledge from their young ones and their foolish ones, they are destroyed.”

‘Abdullāh bin Mas’ūd on taking account of sins
‘Abdullāh bin Mas’ūd [d. 28H] (may Allāh be pleased with him) said: “A believer sees his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain which, he is afraid, may fall on him; whereas the wicked person considers his sins as flies passing over his nose and he just drives them away like this.”
