Ibn Shubrumah on fear of committing sins

عَنِ ابْنِ شُبْرُمَةَ رَحِمَهُ اللّٰهُ قَالَ: >عَجِبْتُ لِلنَّاسِ يَحْتَمُونَ مِنَ الطَّعَامِ مَخَافَةَ الدَّاءِ، وَلا يَحْتَمُونَ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ مَخَافَةَ النَّارِ<
Translation
Ibn Shubrumah [d. 144H] (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said: “I find it strange how people hold back from (certain) foods out of fear of falling sick, while they don’t hold back from sins out of fear of the Fire!”

Al-Fuḍayl bin ‘Iyāḍ on the best of righteous deeds
Al-Fuḍayl bin ‘Iyāḍ [d. 187H] (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said: “The best of deeds is that which is most hidden, safest from shayṭān, and furthest from showing-off.”
