Ibrāhīm bin Adham on youth speaking in presence of elders

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللّٰهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّازِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، ثنا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَلْقَمَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنَ أَدْهَمَ رَحِمَهُ اللّٰهُ، يَقُولُ: >كُنَّا إِذَا رَأَيْنَا الْحَدَثَ يَتَكَلَّمُ مَعَ الْكِبَارِ أَيَسْنَا مِنْ خَلَاقِهِ وَمَنْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ عِنْدَهُ<
Translation
Ibrāhīm bin Adham [d. 162H] (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said: “If we used to see the young speaking in the presence of the elders, then we had no hope in his manners or in any goodness for him.”
