Bilāl bin Sa’d on magnitude of sins

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بنُ إِسْحَاقَ، أَخْبَرَنَا الفَتْحُ بنُ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ، أَخْبَرَنَا هِبَةُ اللّٰهِ بنُ الحُسَيْنِ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ النَّقُّوْرِ، حَدَّثَنَا عِيْسَى بنُ الجَرَّاحِ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ بنُ نَيْرُوْزٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ المُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا الوَلِيْدُ بنُ مُسْلِمٍ: سَمِعْتُ الأَوْزَاعِيَّ يَقُوْلُ: سَمِعْتُ بِلَالَ بنَ سَعْدٍ يَقُوْلُ: >لَا تَنْظُرْ إِلَى صِغَرِ الخَطِيئَةِ، وَلَكِنِ انْظُرْ مَنْ عَصَيْتَ<
Translation
It is narrated on the authority of al-Walīd bin Muslim that he heard al-Awzā’ī say that he heard Bilāl bin Sa’d [d. 110H] (may Allāh have mercy upon him) say: “Do not look at how small the sin is but rather look at [how Great is] the One that you have disobeyed.”
