Imām Shāfi’ī on importance of love of knowledge

قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللّٰهُ: >مَنْ لا يُحِبُّ الْعِلْمَ فَلا خَيْرَ فِيهِ، فَلا يَكُنْ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُ مَعْرِفَةٌ وَلا صَدَاقَة<
Translation
Imām Shāfi’ī [d. 204H] (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said: “Whoever does not love knowledge, there is no good in him. So, there should not be any acquaintance between you and him, nor any friendship.”

Al-Fuḍayl bin ‘Iyāḍ [d. 187H] (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said: “The best of deeds is that which is most hidden, safest from shayṭān, and furthest from showing-off.”
