Book [43]: Book of general behavior (Kitāb al-Adab)
Chapter [3]: Regarding suppressing anger
Ḥadīth [4779]: It is reported on the authority of ‘Abdullāh that he said: The Messenger of Allāh (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “Whom do you consider a wrestler among you?” The people replied: (the man) whom the men cannot defeat in wrestling. He said: “No, it is he who controls himself when he is angry.”
The greatness and excellence of man is that he operates with knowledge and tolerance. He is master over his senses when he is angry. A person who is a whirlwind of anger can never reach a high position in society. For how can he be a brave man if he cannot even control himself. In other words, a person who is in control of his anger is saved from many disasters and leads a dignified life, while a person who is out of control is constantly disrespectful. And even if he is respected by others, it is only to be protected from his evil. So how can he be called brave?
