Book 33: Etiquette
Chapter 1: Honoring one’s parents
Ḥadīth [3660]: It is narrated on the authority of Abī Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “Qinṭār is twelve thousand ‘uqiyyah, each ‘uqiyyah of which is better than what is between heaven and earth.”
And the Messenger of Allāh (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “A man will be raised in status in Paradise and will say: Where did this come from? And it will be said: From your son’s praying for forgiveness for you.”
This contains evidence for upgrade of a person by virtue of his child’s supplication. Therefore, parents should ensure the proper upbringing of their wards upon the religion so that the children become sources of upgrade for them after their (i.e., the parent’s) death.
