‘Abdullāh bin Mas’ūd on keeping quiet and imprisoning the tongue

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللّٰهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُ: >وَاللّٰهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ شَيْءٌ أَحْوَجُ إِلَى طُولِ سَجْنٍ مِنْ لِسَانٍ<
Translation
‘Abdullāh bin Mas’ūd [d. 28H] (may Allāh be pleased with him) said: “By Allāh, the one whom there is no (true) deity besides, there is nothing on earth more in need of a long imprisonment than the tongue.”
