Book [78]: The book of manners
Chapter [76]: To be cautious from being angry

Ḥadīth [6114]: It is narrated on the authority of Abū Hurayrah (may Allāh be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allāh (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger.”

Anger is a natural trait that Allāh has instilled in every human being. However, it is possible to gain control over it, and the one who controls his anger is truly an exemplary person. The one who loses control of himself while he is angry is, in reality, the weakest of all people.

This proves the excellence of the spirit of forgiveness and connivance to the effect that one should refrain from taking a retaliatory action when provoked by anger, and thus should learn to control himself.

People are usually impressed by the physical power and strength of somebody. But the real strength of a man lies in the fact that he should be able to wrestle with his passions in a fit of anger and avoid committing an act for which he may subsequently regret. This is a common observation that wild anger leads to many a wrongdoing of which man repents later on or sheds tears over the ruin resulting from it.
